Mucous Cysts
Mucous Cysts Diagnosis and Treatment
Associated with osteoarthritis, mucous cysts are most common in patients between 50 and 70 years of age. These fluid-filled sacs form on the fingers, above an underlying bone spur, between the nail and the finger’s top joint. Mucous cysts are not harmful and often cause no pain, so treatment is not always necessary. In cases where the cysts cause excessive pain or bother the patient from a cosmetic standpoint, they may be treated surgically.
SYMPTOMS:
- Visible lump(s).
- Pain.
- Tingling.
- Muscle weakness.
TREATMENT:
Surgery and removal of the underlying bone spur will alleviate the issues related with the mucous cyst. Hand Surgeon Dr. Fiore will perform surgery if it is his recommendation.
